What we monitor in USDA's Guaranteed loan handbook

Published · Updated

USDA's consolidated HB-1-3555 handbook is the central primary source for the Guaranteed program. We monitor the consolidated file and related official FAQs instead of assuming an old blog summary remains current.

Material areas we review

Our review checklist covers annual and repayment income, assets and deductions, credit analysis, ratios and compensating factors, eligible loan purposes, property requirements, appraisals, loan limits and fees, lender submissions, and the Conditional Commitment process.

We also review official loan-origination FAQs because USDA can clarify operational questions there. A changed file does not automatically mean every affected page is wrong; it triggers a targeted comparison and documented editorial decision.

How updates reach the site

Material changes enter a source review queue. A reviewer identifies affected pages, replaces unsupported wording, records the date and source, rebuilds the relevant pages, and adds a correction note when a previous statement could have changed a buyer's decision.

Publication dates describe when our page was first released. Updated dates and the page-level change history describe later substantive revisions.
